Long Beach State baseball coach Dave Snow announced his retirement on June 30, 2001, after 13 years with the program.

Mike Weathers, Snow's longtime assistant who was also the team's associate head coach last season, was promoted to head coach. Weathers' promotion will take effect Aug. 1, and Troy Buckley will stay on as an assistant.

Snow was 671-373-5 in 17 years as a Division-I coach at Loyola Marymount (1985-88) and at Long Beach State (1989-2001). Snow led five teams to the College World Series, including four at Long Beach State.

There has been a long line of Goldpanners he has coached at both Long Beach and Fairbanks, including 2000 AL MVP Jason Giambi (90), 2004 A.L. Rookie of the Year Bobby Crosby (99), as well as many others.

Weathers, Snow's assistant his final nine seasons at LBSU, previously was the field manager for the Goldpanners in the 1986-87-88 seasons.

Twice, Snow has been a national coach of the year (1986 with Loyola Marymount and 1989 with LBSU). Seven times he has been a conference coach of the year. Snow was a head coach for LMU from 1985 to 1988, before joining The Beach in 1989. Teams under Snow have advanced to the five College World Series (four with LBSU), and 12 NCAA Regionals (10 with LBSU).
